What are my disability rights?

The approach in the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) as updated 1st October 2004 includes:

  • An individual right to non-discrimination on the basis of disability. An employer cannot justify any act of direct discrimination.
  • A duty on your employer, or possible future employer, to make 'reasonable adjustments' at the key stages in your employment. The DDA covers recruitment selection procedures, contractual arrangements and working conditions. An employer cannot justify a failure to make 'reasonable adjustments'.
  • The DDA outlaws harassment and victimisation on grounds of disability, and instructions or pressure to discriminate.
