Most employment rights are subject to eligibility requirements. The tribunal will first check that you are eligible to bring the case you have submitted. If you are not they will reject your claim. If there is any doubt then there will be a preliminary hearing, usually involving just the chair.
For example to claim unfair dismissal, you must be an 'employee' in legal terms and have worked continuously for your employer for a year or more and you must send the form in within 3 calendar months of the effective date of termination (normally your last day at work). If you do not meet any of these conditions then the tribunal will reject your claim.
