Am I entitled to time off work for public duties?

The law says you are entitled to reasonable time off work to perform public duties.

Examples include:

• jury service
• attendance of school governors at school committees
• attendance by elected local authority members at council meetings.

There is no requirement for the employer to pay for this time off, although the individual contract of employment may provide for this.
