head head head

People who want to take their holiday for Hannukah or Kwanzaa, do they have to take it at Christmas like everyone else?

All companies now have to comply with laws that ban religious discrimination.

The law does say that wherever it is reasonably possible employers will have to allow employees flexibility to take leave for their own religious holidays and festivals.

However, as the law is relatively new it is not yet clear whether it will cover asking to take the days off you get given at Christmas at different times of year for your own religious festival.

You, or your workplace union if you have one, should ask the company if they have reviewed their policies on taking holidays and automatic shutdowns at Christmas or other times in the year.
