The law covering maternity pay and leave is changing. All mothers who are employees and whose babies are due on or after 1st April 2007 will be entitled to take both Ordinary Maternity Leave and Additional Maternity Leave. Statutory Maternity Pay will be extended to 39 weeks.
This only applies to babies due on or after 1st April 2007. So, for example, if your baby is due on 28th March 2007 but is born on 2nd April you are entitled to leave and pay under the current regulations. If your baby is due on 2nd April but born on 28 March you are entitled to leave and pay under the new regulations.
