head head head

How soon after I start with a new employer can I use my annual leave?

In many cases you will be able to take leave almost straight away.

However, your employer can prohibit leave during certain times of the year. Your employer can also insist on a notice period for leave that is twice as long as the time that you have requested.

In addition, you may not be able to take annual leave early on in your employment, as your employer may ask you to wait until you have worked enough days to build up your holiday before you are allowed to take it.

For example, if you have only been in the job one month, you may only be allowed to take one twelfth of your annual holiday allowance until you have worked longer to save up enough leave.

You should check your contract and staff handbook to see if this is the situation where you work.
