How should hazardous substances be labelled and packaged?

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (the COSHH Regulations), cover almost every workplace, from offices to factories, where hazardous substances may be used or produced.

These Regulations also specify the duties of employers and workers, and the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (Chemicals Hazard Information, Packaging and Supply) Regulations set out the law on the labelling and packaging of hazardous substances. Hazardous substances should be clearly labelled as such.

The advice given by the HSE is to read and obey the label. The label gives information, advice, precautions required and first aid instructions.

Follow the instructions; it's your first line of protection.
