How am I protected against racial discrimination?

The race discrimination provisions of the Equality Act 2010 make it unlawful for employers to treat workers less favourably than others on account of their race, colour, nationality and/or ethnic origin. Workers are protected at all stages of employment, including recruitment and dismissal, against both direct discrimination and indirect discrimination. Discrimination includes harassment and victimisation

There are some exceptions called "Genuine Occupational Requirements".

There is a helpful and free leaflet from the TUC Racism at work - a crime in anyone's language. It is available on the web or from the know your rights line 0870 600 4882 (national rate, 8am-10pm).
