working hours, holidays, breaks and leave

Thanks to Europe’s working time directive most people at work have a basic set of working time rights that cover how long you can work each week, how often you should get breaks and how much holiday you should get each year.

There’s also special protection for night workers and enhanced protection for young workers.

You can also take time off for various family reasons such as maternity, paternity and parental leave, and there is a new right for parents of young children to request to work flexible hours.
