how does Pension Credit work for a couple?

If you are treated as a couple your income and capital will be added together when your Pension Credit is worked out. If both you and your partner are aged 60 or over, either of you can apply for Pension Credit. Only one partner can get Pension Credit at any one time.

The minimum guarantee level for 2006-7 is higher for a couple, at £174.05 rather than £114.05 for single people, and if you’re over 65, a couple can claim a maximum savings credit of £23.58, rather than £17.88 for single people.
