Which jobs carry the highest risk?

The more contact you have with the public, the greater the risk you face. The British Crime Survey (BCS) found that the highest-risk occupations are:

  • Security guards and the Police services.
  • Nurses and other health professionals.
  • Care workers.
  • Public transport workers.
  • Catering and hotel workers.
  • Benefits staff.
  • Teachers.
  • Shopworkers.
  • Managers and personnel officers.

The BCS says violence to healthcare staff is under-recorded because 'the victim may feel the offender was not entirely responsible for their actions', and so may not wish to report the incident as a 'crime'.
