What services are provided by my employer's occupational health (OH)?
A basic workplace OH service includes:
- A company doctor and/or nurse with specialist occupational health training, supported by administrative staff.
- An on-site treatment room and other facilities.
- Specialist support, which may be onsite or contacted out. Specialists may include: physiotherapist, counsellor or occupational hygienist responsible for monitoring and controlling environmental hazards, such as chemicals and air quality.
- An employee assistance programme (EAP). These cover around 2 million workers in Britain, providing a telephone helpline, access to counselling, and advice on personal and work-related issues. Some EAPs provide family cover.
- Subsidised subscriptions to a healthcare cash plan, covering eg dental and optical care.
