The aims of health surveillance are:
- to protect your health by detecting the early signs of illness or injury that may be due to exposure to hazards at work
- to help an employer to check if measures used to control and prevent exposure are effective
- to help an employer assess the immunity of employees who are exposed to biological hazards – such as hepatitis B; or Leptospirosis (a bacterium found in rat urine in contaminated water: canal and sewer workers are most at risk)
