I've heard of RSI. What is it?

'RSI' stands for repetitive strain injury. It refers to work-related injuries to the muscles, tendons and nerves.

RSI usually affects the neck, shoulders, wrists, arms and hands. Soft tissues connecting muscles to bone (particularly the tendons), muscles themselves, and the associated nerve systems are all affected. If it goes untreated, RSI can lead to permanent damage.

If you work at a computer or use machinery where you repeat the same small hand and arm movements over long periods, you can develop RSI symptoms. According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), most of the compensation claims faced by call centre employers are from RSI sufferers.

RSI is a painful and disabling condition. It requires treatment. The earlier you start treatment, the better your chances of a full recovery.
