head head head

I have seen TV adverts for claims insurance. Should I ring them?

Beware of TV and other adverts. 'Claims farmers', claims assessors and the like may seem to offer a convenient, friendly and trouble-free way to start your claim, but:

  • Watch out for the small print of any agreement they may want you to sign.
  • Ask them what you stand to gain and what they will gain.
  • Ask if the person you are talking to is a qualified lawyer.
  • Check what they are offering you by telephoning a firm of solicitors who have the 'quality marks' mentioned above, before you sign an agreement.
  • Some of these companies have been exposed in the press and on television for providing a poor service or charging high fees. While others may provide a better service, we would advise that it is always better to go directly through your union or a solicitor as they are legally required to do the best for their clients.
