How should my complaint be dealt with?

Through a proper procedure. The steps an employer must take should be set out in your anti-bullying or grievance procedure.

If you decide to make a formal complaint, your employer should at least:

  • Investigate your complaint promptly.
  • Interview you, allowing you to be accompanied by a fellow worker or union rep if you wish.
  • Interview the bully, making sure they know they may face disciplinary action.
  • If the investigation reveals that there has been bullying or other harassment, and that there are grounds for disciplinary action, this should be dealt with under the employer's disciplinary procedures.
