How do I know that the catering equipment I use is safe?

By law, your employer must provide equipment that is suitable, safe and properly maintained. All new equipment should carry a European CE safety mark.

Equipment such as cappuccino coffee machines, high-pressure steam ovens and jet washers must meet the requirements for pressure vessel and system safety, and must be inspected by a competent person.

Catering equipment must be installed and serviced by competent engineers, up-to-date maintenance logs must be kept, and your employer must set up safe procedures for jobs like cleaning, storage and use.
