Could an HIV-positive employee infect me, colleagues or customers?

Remember that HIV cannot be transmitted through casual contact. HIV-positive employees are not safety hazards.

In particular, it cannot be caught through:

  • Social contact.
  • Saliva.
  • Sharing cutlery or china.
  • Sharing toilets.
  • Shaking hands.
  • Coughs and colds.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), which causes AIDS, is transmitted through body fluids, in particular blood, semen, vaginal secretions and breast milk. In the overwhelming majority of workplace settings, HIV transmission will not be an issue.
