Yes. The Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA) 1974 applies to virtually all employees and workplaces, with the exception of domestic servants. It requires all employers to protect the 'health, safety and welfare' of their employees. This legislation covers all work practices. Employers must make every effort to prevent injury or ill health at work.
The HASAWA also places duties on employers to protect the public whilst on their premises, as well as temps and contract workers.
