The options are practically infinite. Whether you’re young or old, male or female, overweight, naturally athletic, naturally lethargic, or pregnant, there’s an exercise to suit you. It can be as demanding or as gentle as you like.
At one end there are team sports that require you to develop a high level of fitness so you can take part in intense, often heavily physical games. At the other end yoga, Pilates and similar activities allow you to improve your fitness much more gently, in your own time and with no equipment necessary. And in between there are endless possibilities, all of them enjoyable, cheap and easily accessible. Running, swimming, cycling, hiking, going to a gym, rock climbing, boxing, judo, tennis, squash, ice skating – the options only stop when you decide to stop looking.
Think about what you’d like to do and give it a try. Don’t forget that everyone was a beginner once. If you don’t take to one thing you can always try another. And it doesn’t even have to be very ambitious at all. Even a walk through the park or along the river can do you a power of good.
