What is time management?

The books and articles written about time management could stretch from here to the moon and back, and the odds are that you’re never more than three feet from a seminar on the topic. Time management is one of the most written and talked-about subjects in the whole flourishing self-help industry, and some people have become very rich indeed by telling other people how to organise their time.

Many of these books and seminars are either mystifying babble or use very elaborate ways of stating the obvious. Some of the recipes for using your time more efficiently and effectively can be so long-winded and complex that they become, ironically, a waste of time.

But, at the heart of the subject, time management is a simple and powerful idea. It’s about regarding your time as though it were as tangible and as limited as your money in the bank. There’s only so much of it, it doesn’t come easy, and you want to get the most out of it that you possibly can.

By using a little of this precious asset to seriously address how to use the rest of it, you can find that you get a lot more done in your set working hours, and that your work is better focused and more effective. Good time management can make you more productive, make your work more enjoyable and help put your work-life balance back on the right track.
