It’s that time again – the word has gone round that management has to conduct its annual review of performance. Officially this is because bonuses, pay awards and the rest have to be decided at this time of the year. Unofficially it will be an opportunity for grumpy bosses to get a lot of things off their chest which they have been saving up for months. Not for nothing is the annual appraisal interview sometimes referred to as the “annual reprisal”. But your performance review needn’t be a disaster and, if you handle it properly, you could get something out of it as well as helping your organisation to progress.
