Unless you have one of those ‘jobs for life’ that your grandparents told you about, the time will come for you and your job to part company. It’s a big moment, up there with moving house as one of life’s most dramatic upheavals. How often do you completely change your daily routine and replace most of your day-to-day social relationships? It can be a stressful, trying and emotional experience, but if you time it properly and prepare well you can make it work to your advantage. And, as ever at times of change, the best way to minimise the downside (and maximise the up) is to keep your cool.
